Using Discord Web in your browser is highly convenient when you need to access the app from someone else’s computer—whether at work, school, a friend’s house, or an internet cafe. However, logging into your account on a shared device always comes with risks. The PC could have password-stealing malware installed, or the browser itself might accidentally save your login credentials.
To keep your account from falling into the wrong hands, follow these five essential security rules when using the web version of Discord.
1. Always Use Incognito Mode
Before entering your credentials on a foreign computer, make sure to open a private browsing window (Incognito mode). In this mode, the browser does not save your browsing history, cookies, or login data. As soon as you close the incognito tab, your Discord Web session will end automatically.
2. Never Save Your Password on a Shared Device
After you type in your username and password, the browser will usually ask if you want to save them for a faster login next time. On someone else’s device, always click “Never” or “Don’t Save”. If you accidentally agree, anyone who uses that computer after you can easily access your profile.
3. Log In via QR Code Instead of a Password
The safest way to log into Discord Web on a third-party PC is by using a QR code. This method eliminates the need to type your password on a foreign keyboard, protecting you from keyloggers (spyware that records keystrokes).
- Open the Discord Web page on our website.
- Click the “Open Discord Web” button to redirect to the official browser version of the messenger.
- Take your personal smartphone with the Discord app installed.
- Inside the mobile app, go to User Settings -> Scan QR Code.
- Point your phone’s camera at the QR code on the computer screen and confirm the login.
4. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Two-Factor Authentication is the ultimate shield for your account. Even if someone manages to find out your password, they won’t be able to log in without a one-time code from a dedicated app (like Google Authenticator) on your phone. You can set this up in the “My Account” section of your Discord settings.
5. Don’t Forget to Click “Log Out”
If you logged into Discord through a regular browser tab instead of an incognito window, simply closing the tab is not enough. Before walking away from the computer, click the User Settings icon (the gear icon in the bottom-left corner of Discord Web), scroll down to the bottom, and click the red “Log Out” button. This completely revokes access to your profile on that PC.
What to Do if You Forgot to Log Out?
If you have already left and realized that your Discord was left open on someone else’s computer, there is no need to panic. You can terminate that session remotely from your phone or home PC:
- Log into Discord from your personal device.
- Go to User Settings -> Devices.
- Find the foreign browser session in the list (look at the activity time and operating system).
- Click the “Log Out” or “X” button next to it.
Useful Tip: If you simply change your account password, Discord will automatically terminate all active sessions across all computers and smartphones instantly.
