Discord will no longer support 32-bit Windows operating systems as of Dec. 1

There is less and less support for using a PC with a 32-bit Windows operating system (OS). Online messaging service Discord announced this week that it will no longer support running its Windows app client on 32-bit Windows operating systems as of December 1, 2023.

The Discord support message states: “To continue to receive updates and support for your Discord client, you will need to upgrade to a 64-bit version of Windows after this date.”
The support message added that while the app may still offer “basic functionality” on 32-bit Windows operating systems after December 1, continued operation and stability are “not guaranteed” as it will no longer receive updates.

Users of older computers running 32-bit Windows can continue to access Discord through web browsers as long as they meet the service’s minimum requirements.

In May 2020, Microsoft announced that it would no longer offer 32-bit Windows operating systems to PC OEMs. Since then, these companies have been shipping PCs with a 64-bit version of Windows pre-installed.

Other apps and even games have dropped support for 32-bit systems, including Valve’s DOTA 2 in September 2021. AMD and NVIDIA dropped support for GPU drivers for 32-bit systems back in 2018.

The fact that Discord is only now ending support for 32-bit versions of its Windows app shows that many of its users continue to use these older operating systems.
