Aisles Of The Locust takes a wonderfully ordinary idea — going to the supermarket for groceries — and makes it a terrible one. This is a Roblox co-op horror game where you and your teammates enter a huge, run-down store with a shopping list to complete. The problem is the Locust. Something is moving through those aisles, and it really does not want you finishing your shopping.
The shopping itself is where the game gets interesting. Every day gives the team a new list, and the order gets larger as the run continues. You need to find the right products, get them into the cart and eventually make it back to the entrance to cash out. Making noise is dangerous, though, so simply sprinting from shelf to shelf is usually a bad idea. The store’s layout becomes part of the survival strategy: shelves provide cover, while open aisles can leave you exposed to the creature.
Co-op changes the whole experience. Players can split up to search different parts of the supermarket, but the objective is still shared, and everyone needs to make it back to the safe area for the day to count. That creates those wonderfully stressful moments where one person is already at the entrance while someone else is still somewhere deep in the store with the last few groceries. A good team has to communicate, not just run faster.
That is also why the official Aisles Of The Locust Discord server is useful for the game. Players have plenty of very specific things to discuss: how to handle the Locust, which upgrades are worth buying, where particular items turn up, how to divide the shopping between teammates and what changes with later days. It is the sort of game where a small piece of advice can completely change the next run, especially once the supermarket becomes darker and the shopping list starts getting longer.
There is more going on than simply filling a cart, too. Between shopping days, players can spend their earnings on upgrades and tools, while different equipment and abilities can make future runs safer or more efficient. The game also has side objectives involving characters and items around the store, giving players reasons to look beyond the basic grocery list.
Aisles Of The Locust works because the premise stays simple while the situation keeps getting worse. You know exactly what you came for. Find the groceries. Get out. The difficult part is doing that while something is hunting through the same supermarket. The Discord community gives players a place to trade survival ideas, find co-op partners, follow changes to the Roblox game and talk about the runs that went spectacularly wrong.
